This exceptional project was officially launched on March 7th at L’Envol des Pionniers: the construction of a non-flying replica on a scale of 1 of an emblematic Aéropostale plane, the Laté 28, on the same site where it was built 100 years ago. Initiated by Toulouse Métropole, the project is managed by Semeccel-L’Envol des Pionniers in partnership with the Laté 28 association which will oversee construction.
It also has the support of the Circle of Flying Machines which provided all the original plans.
Planned to last five years, construction will be completed by students from ten vocational and technical high schools in the Academy of Toulouse. The replica will be built on the basis of original plans but using modern techniques.
Once created in the schools, the parts will be assembled in the heart of the old engine workshops opposite L’Envol des Pionniers. In addition to enabling visitors to L’Envol des Pionniers to immerse themselves further in the history of Aéropostale, the project will showcase technological and vocational educational programs and promote the reindustrialization of France.
It is within the scope of the Year of Mechanics 2021-2022 initiated by the
French Association of Mechanical Engineering and supported by the National Education Authority and will be the focus of several mediation operations including a temporary exhibition on the visionary entrepreneur, Pierre Georges Latécoère starting in December 2022.
