The Cité de l’espace invites you on board for new future lunar exploration
It’s official! Toulouse Métropole, the Région Occitanie Pyrénées- Méditerranée and the Semeccel revealed on February 11th the contours of LuneXplorer, the brand new mediation equipment focusing on lunar exploration which will open in summer of 2023. The Goal: to enable visitors to understand the challenges of yesterday’s and tomorrow’s lunar missions and to experience what the astronauts feel physically while taking off for the moon. This theme is right in line with current development : the international space agencies have made Man’s return to the Moon one of the great challenges of the decade!
11.8 million euro
The 11.8 million euro project is financed 40% by Toulouse Métropole (sponsor), 40% by the European recovery fund, REACT EU and 20% by the Region. For Jean-Luc Moudenc, Mayor of Toulouse and president of the Toulouse Métropole, « LuneXplorer is a unique, immersive, sensory based experience which is part of the DNA of dissemination of knowledge of the Cité de l’espace”. This opinion is shared by the regional adviser, Thierry Cotelle, who sees in it “an exceptional opportunity to leverage the attractiveness for the entire territory”. This new facility, unique in Europe, will enable the Cité de l’espace to attract 30-40 000 additional visitors a year, “and to reach new audiences”, hopes Jean Baptiste Desbois, CEO of the Semeccel.
